My Iraqi heritage prides itself in its food culture; tender meat dishes, accompanied by stews and saffron rice. Migrating to the UK in 2007 exposed my tastebuds to peculiar flavours. Now as a cultural food enthusiast, I hope that Umami can influence people who came from a homogeneous background like me, and offer insight into a world of hidden culinary gems.
My dish recommendation: Iraqi dolma!
I am from Sofia, Bulgaria, and when I moved to the UK, I saw that many food cultures were underrepresented. Through Umami, I want to contribute to food society, bringing light to not-so-popular cuisines.
My favourite dish is the Bulgarian Banitsa, a filo pastry & cheese dish.
Coming from the multicultural city of London, I have always loved trying a variety of different foods. My interests lie in shedding a light on the lesser-known food cultures and the delicious dishes they have to offer, bringing people from around the world closer together.
My favourite dish is the Tortang Talong, a Filipino fried aubergine dish.
Being Cambodian-American and a massive foodie, I’ve always wanted to see less-represented cultural food, like mine, reach as many people as possible. As Umami’s brand manager, I hope to bring diverse dishes and stories to the masses through exciting content.
I love all foods, but one of the best dishes I will always go back to is Cambodian rice noodles, ‘nom banh chok’.
